Borders Bookstore Evanston, Illinois Completion: 2003 Area: 28,000 square feet Award: Design Evanston New Construction Award Site & Program: The triangular site is located in the heart of a primary redevelopment area in this urban community. The building is designed for a national chain bookseller. Design: Nagle Hartray used a clean, modern vocabulary to give presence to a relatively small building at an important corner. The glazed brick base relates the structure to neighboring commercial and retail buildings. Flush metal panels enclose the upper floor and wrap the corner, which features a curved glass facade and projecting sunscreens.
