Chicago Public Radio Chicago, Illinois Completion: 1995; 2007 Area: 24,500 square feet original studio core and support spaces; 20,500 s.f. of additional office space Site & Program: Chicago’s public radio station is located on the redeveloped Navy Pier. The facility includes broadcast studios, administrative offices and an outdoor roof terrace. Design: The design for Chicago Public Radio focused on creating an efficient and flexible studio core capable of accommodating the station’s future needs while incorporating solutions to acoustic and structural problems related to the site. For example, a “floating” floor slab insulates the broadcast area from noise and vibration transmitted through a loading dock and Navy Pier’s maintenance shops below. We recently worked with Chicago Public Radio again on a two-story, 20,500 s.f. addition and renovation of their existing space to accommodate growth. The addition extends the third and fourth floors over the loading dock, providing open offices and meeting rooms. A fourth floor offers additional office and meeting space. Components of the enhanced facilities include a new music studio, open offices, edit suites, and a multipurpose room. Photography: ©David Clifton Photography and ©Doug Snower Photography |
