Residences of Kirkwood Kansas City, Missouri Completion: Kirkwood Circle & The Grove – 2004 Area: Approximately 250,000 square feet Site & Program: The 9.9 acre site is located two blocks from the historic Plaza shopping area. The completed project will consist of 240 living units including luxury condominiums, townhouses and rowhouses, and single-family residences. Design: Nagle Hartray master planned the community as an extension of the pedestrian-friendly nearby Plaza development. Residences are organized around a central public park. The first phase includes the 12-story, 69-unit Kirkwood Circle and the 5-story, 24-unit The Grove, both luxury condominium buildings. Buildings share an informal architecture based on local traditional housing that features detailed masonry and tile walls and roofs. The sloping site together with bays and stepped terraces confer a rich variety unusual for this typically repetitive housing type.
