Kinzie Park Condominiums Chicago, Illinois Completion: Kinzie Park Tower – 1999, 390 N. Canal pending Area: 540,600 square feet (Kinzie Park Tower) Site & Program: The Kinzie Park development is located along the Chicago River. Nagle Hartray designed two condominium towers that frame the linear residential development. Design: The stepped and curved façade of the completed 34-story, 208-unit Kinzie Park Tower maximizes views of downtown. The unusual wall geometry distinguishes Kinzie Park from the concrete-box buildings that are its competition and creates unique unit plans uncommon for this typically repetitive housing type. The design for the 230-unit 390 N. Canal tower is the result of a similar approach. Balconies carved from stepped corners create strong shadows that add human scale. The stepped façades also define the building’s distinctive profile against the sky. A brick base conceals parking and relates to adjacent townhouse units. Photography: Jim HedrichİHedrich Blessing
