Montgomery Place Senior Housing
Chicago, Illinois

Completion: 1991

Area: 217,000 square feet

Awards: Excellence in Masonry and Best of Senior Housing, Honorable Mention (National Council on Senior Housing)

Site & Program: The 1.5-acre site occupies a prominent location on Lake Shore Drive across from the Museum of Science and Industry. The program consists of 165 independent living apartments and 93 skilled care nursing beds.

Design: Nagle Hartray minimized the number of floors required to accommodate the program through efficient planning, creating a better living environment for senior residents. The building features angled bay windows to capture views of Lake Michigan. A landscaped rooftop garden above the parking garage offers scenic, but secure, outdoor living.

Nagle Hartray worked closely with local community groups to minimize the impact on this sensitive site. Building location preserves lake views for neighboring buildings. Its success is evidenced by the number of community residents who now call Montgomery Place home.
