Augustana Lutheran Church
Chicago, Illinois

Completion: 2004 (est.)

Renovation Area: 5,000 square feet

Expansion Area: 5,500 square feet

Site & Program: This historic church designed by Ed Dart is located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Expansion includes classrooms, offices, and a multi-purpose room.

Design: Augustana Church has an inspiring sanctuary. It lacked contemporary supporting spaces important to the mission of this religious community. The expansion and renovations designed by Nagle Hartray complement the historic worship space. A common vocabulary of forms and materials unifies the expansion with the existing church. Renovations include improvements to a dimly lit narthex. The completed project fulfills the promise seeded in the original church design for an inspirational religious community.
