Site & Program: The site overlooks Lake Michigan. The modest cottage program includes living space and one bedroom.

Design: This architect’s cottage builds upon a tradition of historic modern designs. A stone fireplace anchors the plan and divides living from sleeping areas. The roof plane extends as a trellis above a deck with lake views.

The exterior fits the cottage to its natural surroundings. The heavy timber structure is clad in clear cedar siding. In the best tradition of modern housing, this modest design strikes a delicate balance with its wooded site.
