Bannockburn House
Bannockburn, Illinois

Completion: 1996

Area: 10,000 square feet

Publications: Art in America, Home and Architectural Trends, Chicago Magazine

Site & Program: The site is located in north suburban Chicago. The program for this primary residence includes the display of an eclectic modern art collection.

Design: Nagle Hartray organized this house as five pavilions according to function to maintain a modest scale for the relatively large program. A central two story circulation spine connects the pavilions.

The modern architecture provides an appropriate backdrop for display of the owners’ modern art. The sculptural quality of the house strikes a balance with its natural environment. This relaxed modernism is concerned with livability rather than monumentality.
