Ravine House Highland Park, Illinois Completion: 2000 Area: 7,500 square feet Publications: Home and Architectural Trends, Ville Giardini Site & Program: The wooded site is located along a steep ravine in suburban Chicago. This is a primary residence. Design: Nagle Hartray developed the plan as a pinwheel that opens to views across the ravine. The centrally located entry and stair form the hub around which living spaces pivot. Glazed facades front the pool terrace at the top of the ravine. The architecture is distinguished by the use of natural materials including wood and stone arranged in modern forms. The relaxed character of the design responds sensitively to the home’s natural environment and promotes livability uncommon in modern housing. Photography: ©Bruce Van Inwegen |
