Deerpath House Door County, Wisconsin Completion: 1999/Addition 2003 Area: 2,700 square feet Publication: Ville Giardini Site & Program: The site is a clearing within the north woods of Wisconsin. This is a secondary residence. Design: Nagle Hartray’s design builds upon a classic house concept. The bi-nuclear organization – living spaces in one section and sleeping spaces in another – reflects a type developed by modernists such as Marcel Breuer. The house name refers to a natural path created by deer traversing the site. The preserved path informed the orientation of the house. The taut exterior skin emphasizes the block massing in contrast to the home’s natural environment. Photography: Jim Hedrich©Hedrich Blessing |
